TowWise is a route planning tool for towing, operated by RETSA Group Pty Ltd (ABN 61 147 415 174) in New South Wales, Australia. This policy explains what information TowWise collects, why, and what happens to it, in plain English.

The short version

TowWise does not require an account. Your vehicle dimensions stay on your device. When you plan a route, the places you search for are sent to our routing providers to do the work. If you send us feedback, we keep it. We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not build profiles of you.

What we collect and why

Route searches. When you search for a place or plan a route, the text you type and the locations involved are sent to our servers and passed to our mapping providers (currently TomTom, and OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service as a fallback) to find places and calculate routes. If you use the "Use my location" button, your device's GPS position is used as the route start. We use this solely to plan the route you asked for.

Your vehicle and trailer dimensions. Height, length, width, weight and axle details you enter are stored in your browser on your own device, not in an account. They are sent with each route request so the route can be checked against recorded limits, which is the entire purpose of TowWise.

Feedback you choose to send. If you rate a route or send a report, we receive what you submit, which can include your comments, your name and email if you provide them, the route and dimensions involved, and a technical identifier for your device that helps us group reports. Feedback is stored with our form provider (Netlify) and read by the small team that builds TowWise. It is used to fix problems and improve coverage, and for no other purpose.

Waitlist and contact. If you join the mailing list on our website, your name, email and the details you enter are stored with our form and email providers (Formspree, Google Workspace, Brevo) and used to send you TowWise updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works.

Technical logs. Our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps short-lived logs of requests, including IP addresses, which we use for security, rate limiting and diagnosing faults. We apply rate limits by IP address to keep the service available for everyone.

Website analytics. Our website uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and page views. It uses no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not identify you or track you across other sites.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your information. We do not run advertising. We do not use your routes to build a profile of you. We do not track you across other websites. We do not collect analytics about how you use the app beyond the feedback you choose to send. Our website counts visits without identifying you, as described above. If that ever changes, this policy will change first and say so plainly.

Who your information passes through

TowWise runs on services provided by: Netlify (hosting, functions, form storage), TomTom (routing and place search), OpenStreetMap's Nominatim (fallback place search), Google Workspace (email), Formspree (website waitlist form) and Brevo (mailing list). Each processes only what is needed for its role. Some of these providers store data outside Australia.

How long we keep things

Route requests are processed and not kept as a browsable history. Feedback submissions and waitlist details are kept while TowWise is being developed and improved, and deleted on request. Technical logs expire automatically on our providers' standard schedules.

Your choices and rights

Your dimensions live in your browser, and clearing your browser data removes them. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@towwise.online, and we will act on it promptly. If you believe we have mishandled your information, you can complain to us first, and to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) if we do not resolve it.

Children

TowWise is a tool for licensed drivers and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and material changes will be noted plainly on this page.
